Information: Jaqueline “Jackie” Doherty has served on the Lowell School Committee for eight years, and from the beginning, she has been active in MASC, first serving as a member of its Advocacy subcommittee and later as Chair of its Urban Division (Division IX). During her four-year tenure as Division IX Chair, Ms. Doherty increased member participation by holding several well-attended meetings with key legislators and D.E.S.E. administrators regarding various, hot-topic issues, such as proposed education-reform legislation, the impact of Level IV designation on school districts, and the sharing of district best practices to save money during tough fiscal times. She has attended the NSBA’s Federal Relations Network conference and has served as her committee’s delegate to the MASC Annual Meeting since 2007.

In Lowell, Ms. Doherty served as Vice Chair of her Committee from 2008-2010, and she currently chairs the Special Education/Student Services and Lowell High School subcommittees. She also serves on her Board’s Finance, Curriculum and Instruction, and Facilities subcommittees, as well as serving on the City Manager’s Youth Development Board and the Immigration Commission. In addition, she has served on the University of Massachusetts Lowell Community-University Advisory Board and the Lowell Telecommunications Board. Ms. Doherty also led the Lowell Citywide Parent Council, serving on its executive board for more than 10 years, as its chair in 2003-2004, and currently as its school committee liaison.

Professionally, Ms. Doherty currently works as a Recruiting Consultant with JCSI. Prior to that, she taught at the college level for eleven years, worked as an editor for Raytheon, and provided communication services for clients in diverse nonprofit and for-profit fields. She earned Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Emerson College with majors in mass communication and writing. A fierce advocate, Ms. Doherty continues to use her communication skills to advance positive change and actively contribute to improvements in public education statewide.
