Final Bill.

A tentative agreement was reached this week between the MTA and the education advocacy group Stand for Children Massachusetts that will impact how teachers are hired, transferred and removed relative to seniority; will give principals more authority in staffing decisions; establish an educator evaluation data advisory committee to advise the Board of Education on information to be collected for assessing and disseminating district evaluation data; and authorize appropriation for training fund grants required to implement the new teacher and administrator evaluations.

Governor Deval Patrick ended the cupcake frenzy yesterday with a directive to the Department of Public Health to scrap its restriction on classroom and similar school fund-raising events which would have otherwise been the death knell for those beloved calorie-indulgent bake sales.

MASC mourns the passing on March 23 of its former Assistant Executive Director Margaret Jacques, a 24-year member of the Grafton School Committee and Past President of MASC. She is survived by her husband Leo, five children and seven grandchildren.
