2023 MASC Legislative Priorities

MASC public policy priorities for public education in 2023 are now available.

2023 Legislative Priorities include:

  • Full funding for the Student Opportunity Act
  • Children’s Services Safety Net
  • Full funding for the Special Education Circuit Breaker
  • Establishing Regional Reserve Assessment Funds and Expanding Vocational Education Reserve Funds as approved by the MASC Delegate Assembly
  • Reforming of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Rethinking the State Accountability System
  • Earmarking Special Education Funding for Small and Rural Districts
  • Retention of Medicaid Reimbursement for Covered Services
  • Charter School Oversight and Reform
  • METCO
  • Vocational Technical School Enrollment
  • Establish Incentives for More Students to Become Educators
  • Continued Support for Leadership Development Incentive
  • Counting Students Where They Live
  • Addressing the Concerns of Native Americans in Massachusetts
  • Retain a Powerful Voice for the Community in the Oversight and Governance of its Public Schools
  • Protect the Right to Privacy as a Matter of Equity
  • Update Open Meeting Law
  • Opposing Efforts to Diminish the Authority of the School Committee
  • Opposing, at this time, Efforts to make it easier for administrators to suspend or expel students without appropriate due process
