The E-Rate program, established in 1996, has helped ensure that schools and libraries across the country have access to affordable, reliable internet service. Over the past 30 years, the program has provided more than $76 billion to support connectivity nationwide, including more than $1 billion for schools and libraries in Massachusetts. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is now considering changes that could significantly reduce or eliminate the program, raising concerns for educators, librarians, and communities that rely on these resources.
We invite you to join Senator Ed Markey – a co-author of the original 1996 E-Rate program – and Massachusetts school, library, and community leaders for a virtual Call to Action to Save E-Rate on Tuesday, August 4, at 2:00 p.m. Representatives from the American Library Association, American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and other organizations will discuss the importance of E-Rate, provide an update on the FCC proceeding, and outline ways individuals and organizations can support the program.
