Day on the Hill

Day on the Hill is MASCâ€™s annual legislative advocacy day. Typically, this event brings hundreds of school committee members, superintendents and student leaders to the State House in Boston to meet with the executive and legislative leadership as well as local senators and representatives. This event is an increasingly critical moment for MASC members to advance the message of the value of public education and ensure that legislators and other key decision/policy makers understand the issues and challenges that you confront and that they can support.

On a school committee, the chair has special responsibilities well beyond those of his or her colleagues. This School Committee Chair’s Guide is designed to help explain these responsibilities and to offer insights into effective board leadership.

Roles and Responsibilities

Those who govern and administer the Commonwealth’s public schools must share a vision, a clear purpose, and the ability and courage to lead. The Center for Public School Leadership has merged educational reform and Massachusetts Department of Education guidelines to create a document reflective of current school governance in Massachusetts.
